A little over a week ago we got a letter from a priest in Florida. Enclosed were some copies of a holy card. On the back of the holy card was a prayer for the victims of sexual abuse. Father said that we may duplicate it and use it to try to help folks.
We wrote back to Father and told him that we would like to share it here, attributing it to whomever wrote it, and recognizing the parish and men’s group who made the holy card and are willing to share it. We are waiting for a response from Father so that you can find it here the next time you come. In the meantime, be encouraged to know that there is a priest and a men’s group in Florida who care about the victims and pray for the victims and are trying to take active steps to help the victims.
There has been such incomprehensible damage done and the repair work is so overwhelming.
The alternative of doing nothing, guilt by omission, is so unacceptable. The number of persons who don’t yet understand this and the number of persons who do understand but dare not admit it, is utterly terrifying.
And yet, there are little groups of devout Catholics, one or two or six, all over our country, who take seriously what the church teaches us about active accountability as part of remorseful good intention. These little groups of real people, who would no more betray Mother Church than they would our country or their own children and grandchildren, in addition to praying, are taking little steps to repair the damage.
Little steps to repair immense damage. Little steps by little groups for the sake of the little ones of God. Little steps done by little people, by the littlest, least significant in the eyes of those with all the power.
