Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!

                                                                  EASTER 2004

"There is a season for everything... A time for tears, a time for laughter; a time for mourning, a time for dancing" 1. These past days of Holy Week have indeed been a time for tears and mourning. But today we begin a time for laughter and dancing.

"On the first day of the week, at the first sign of dawn" 2 the women went to Jesus' borrowed tomb with the spice they had prepared to wrap his body for final burial.

Easter - the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is a feast, a time, a season for new beginnings. The women went to the tomb on the first day of the week, at the first sign of dawn. "Jesus is the Beginning, the first born from the dead,...God wanted all fullness to be found in him and through him to reconcile all things to him, everything in heaven and everything on earth, by making peace through his death on the cross." 3

The women found the huge stone rolled away from the tomb and Jesus' body gone. They were puzzled and then terrified as two angels appeared to them The angels said: "Why look among the dead for someone who is alive? He is not here. He has risen." 4

"Behold, I make all things new." 5 At the creator's direction nature joins our Easter chorus. Look about you. Spring, new life is evident everywhere. Winter is gone. Yes, there will surely be an occasional frost. But the severity and rigor of winter has given way to the gentle, quiet warmth of spring.

"So for anyone who is in Christ, there is a new creation; the old order is gone and a new being is there to see. It is all God's work." 6 The huge stone of our old and sinful life has been rolled away. Angels direct us to seek Jesus among the living. For He is alive and has told us he came that we might have life and have it abundantly. 7

Let us follow him to Galilee singing and dancing. Let us gladly serve our brothers and sisters as we joyfully share with them our new life. Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia!
