In a monastery the scriptorium was the special room reserved for writing, copying, or illuminating (decorating) Scripture, recorded information, and manuscripts. In today's time, it is the room where Scripture study, spiritual reading, Lectio, and religious studies are done. As is done here at Our Lady of Little Citeaux, the monastery library is sometimes located in the same room.
